You’ve built something that matters
Now let’s help others see why that’s good for them
We’ve all seen it. Companies and organizations develop great products or important services. But when it comes to explaining to potential customers what they do and why it matters, they come up short. The messaging is muddy, the content inconsistent, and the people who should be paying attention aren’t.
Sound familiar? That’s the problem I solve.
Hi, I’m Jim
I’m a content strategist and writer based in the Philadelphia area. I help health systems, life sciences companies, and health technology organizations figure out what they really want to say and then say it in a way that connects with the people who matter.
That might mean developing brand messaging that gives your team a clear, consistent voice. Writing blog posts and articles that make your leadership look like the experts they are. Putting together white papers that clinicians read instead of skim. Building email sequences that move people through your pipeline. Or pulling together a launch campaign that makes your market take notice.
I’ve been doing this for more than 30 years, pretty much all of it in healthcare, health technology or life sciences. I’m not going to need you to explain why health system procurement cycles take forever, why your clinical audience and your C-suite audience need completely different messaging, or why communicating in a regulated industry requires a level of care that most writers don’t have. I already understand all that. Which means we can skip the education phase and get straight to the good stuff.
I think first, then write
Most content problems aren’t writing problems. They’re thinking problems. That’s why before I write anything, I want to understand who you’re trying to reach, what you need them to know, and what you want them to do next. Once that’s clear, the writing practically takes care of itself.
I also work best as part of your team, not as an outside vendor lobbing drafts over a wall. I want to learn your voice, know your competitive landscape, and understand what keeps your marketing team up at night. The more context I have, the better I can work … and the less time we’ll both spend on revisions.
Whether it’s a single project or a years-long partnership, every project starts the same way: with a real conversation about what success looks like for you.
Wide-ranging experience
I’ve handled communications for a wide range of organizations, including health systems, life sciences companies managing product launches, and early-stage health tech startups seeking their first enterprise client. The industries I know best are health systems, life sciences, health technology, digital health, and medical devices.
Over the years I’ve done content strategy, brand messaging, email marketing, public relations, thought leadership programs, and executive communications. I’ve worked with organizations of all sizes, from small startups to multinational corporations. Every project has taught me something, and I bring all of it to the table to use for you.
Here’s something that’s important to me: When you hire me, you get me. I run my business as SJS Media LLC, but there’s no account manager or no junior writer doing first drafts. It’s only me. My expertise, my attention, and my name on every deliverable.
Away from the keyboard
I live in Bucks County, Pa., just north of Philadelphia and west of Princeton, NJ. with my wife and our Skye Terrier. When I’m not working on client projects, I’m usually behind a camera, playing my guitar, or in my workshop. Those are my ways to recharge. They all require patience, attention to detail, and a willingness to start over when something isn’t quite right. Come to think of it, that’s also a good way to approach writing.
